The Alderley Top is the newest edition to our exclusive Stitch School pattern gang and like the Bilberry T-shirt & the Whitley Top it’s a totally hackable, satisfying quick sew – but with some lessons to learn on the way!
The Alderley Top is a bias cut cami top with bust darts, french seams and bias binding straps. Join Lisa as she takes you through all the steps to sewing up our Alderley Top, sharing her best tips about cutting and sewing with bias cut fabric. By the end you’ll be an expert!
Once you’ve sewn up one Alderley Top, you’ll want many more in your wardrobe!
As the Alderley Top is cut on the bias grain, it needs a fabric with a bit of drape to show off it’s best features. If you’re new to sewing with bias cut fabrics then we’d recommend choosing a cotton lawn as this will be relatively stable to sew but will still have some movement when you’re wearing your top. If you’re feeling more adventurous then the sky is the limit! Try soft viscoses, bright crepes & georgettes and even silk for the most luxurious of Alderleys.
The Alderley Top PDF sewing pattern is sized between UK sizes 8-20. See the chart for details on fabric requirements here. Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.
This project includes:
- printable pattern (in both tiled print-at-home and copyshop format)
- fully-illustrated printable instruction booklet
- imperial/metric conversion size chart
- copyshop permission letter
So what is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home. Simply download, print, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
Never used a PDF pattern before and would like some help? Learn everything you need to know in our handy Guide to Assembling PDF Patterns over on our blog!
